Who is responsible for your data
Get Character is a trading name of a sole trader based in the United Kingdom, and is the data controller for personal data collected through getcharacter.co.uk. For anything to do with your data — a question, a copy of what we hold, or a deletion request — email hello@getfigure.co.uk.
What we collect
- If you join our email list: your email address, and the date and site you signed up from.
- If you place an order: your name, email address, delivery address, order contents, and the photographs and personalisation details you send us. Orders are taken on the GetFigure checkout at getfigure.co.uk, which is run on Shopify.
- If you email us: whatever is in your message, so we can reply.
- Automatically: basic technical information your browser sends — IP address, browser type, referring page — used to keep the site up and to understand roughly how many people visit.
We never see or store your full card number. Payments are handled by our payment providers.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
- To make and deliver your order — performance of our contract with you.
- To answer your questions — our legitimate interest in running a business people can talk to.
- To send marketing emails — your consent, given when you sign up. Every email has an unsubscribe link and we act on it immediately.
- To keep records of sales and tax — our legal obligation.
- To keep the site secure and working — our legitimate interest in preventing abuse.
Your photographs
Photographs you send are used only to make your order. We do not sell them, we do not use them to train anyone's models, and we do not publish them or the finished piece in our marketing unless you have told us we may. We delete order photographs once the order is complete and the return window has passed, unless you have asked us to keep them for a reorder.
Who we share it with
Only the suppliers we need to run the business, and only with what they need:
- Our ecommerce and payment platforms, to take and process your order.
- Our hosting and content-delivery providers, to serve this website.
- Our email provider, to send you order updates and — if you asked for them — marketing emails.
- Our production partners and couriers, to make and deliver your piece.
- Our accountant and HMRC, where the law requires it.
We never sell your personal data or hand it to advertisers.
Where your data goes
Some of these providers are outside the UK. Where that happens we rely on UK adequacy regulations or on the International Data Transfer Agreement (or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) to keep your data protected to UK standards.
How long we keep it
- Order and tax records: six years after the end of the tax year, as HMRC requires.
- Order photographs and personalisation files: deleted once the order is complete and settled.
- Marketing list: until you unsubscribe, or after two years of no engagement.
- Email correspondence: up to two years.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how we use it, or send it to another provider. You can withdraw consent to marketing at any time. We do not make automated decisions about you and we do not profile you.
Email hello@getfigure.co.uk and we will respond within one month, free of charge.
Children
This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us their details, tell us and we will delete them.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first — we would like the chance to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes
We will update this notice when our practices change, and the date at the top will change with it.
